Utah Ski Resorts

Utah is such a hardcore skiing and snowboarding state that Utah drivers have the slogan “Greatest Snow on Earth,” written across their license plates. Utah’s skiing and snowboarding is characterized by their abundance of light, dry snow that falls each winter (over 500 inches anually). Three resorts, Park City Mountain Resort, Deer Valley and The Canyons, are all located in the town of Park City and offer fantastic skiing and riding along with luxurious dining, lodging, family activities and nightlife options. Utah’s Big Cottonwood Canyon, is home to Solitude Mountain Resort, a local favorite. Head to Little Cottonwood Canyon and you'll find Snowbird, Utah's biggest vertical drop, and Alta, where mountain use is limited to skiers only.

Park City, UT

Closest Airport: SLC 36 miles. Easy access from SLC, a vibrant historic downtown , and a variety of lodging options, make Park City a top choice for travelers looking for a great experience on and off the slope.

Park City Mountain Resort has managed to strike the balance between modern and homey. The historic town at the base is connected by a ski bridge to the Town Lift. Within minutes, you’re delivered to a state-of-the-art six-pack accessing 3,300 acres of high-speed groomers and back bowls. In fact, PCMR has spent more than $10 million in the last two years upgrading lifts, terrain parks and snowmaking without bleaching out the local color. Ripping through ancient glades in Thaynes Canyon or dropping into powdery steeps in Jupiter Bowl, you’ll speed by vestiges of the area’s mining past. This blend of old and new has a comforting appeal. New.... The Canyons Resort is know part of Park City upping the skiable terrain to over 7,300 acres!!

Deer Valley, UT

Closest Airport: SLC, 37 miles. Looking for luxury both on and off the slope- then there is no better choice than Deer Valley.

Vacation here is like skiing in the lap of luxury.  Deer Valley’s faithful fully embrace the resort’s pampering ethos, which is the basis of its repeat no. 1 ranking with SkMag.com.  Its consistent success is built from the bottom up.  Not surprisingly, ripping down groomers is “like driving a Ferrari.” And more often than not, dining out is akin to visiting a four-star hotel. However, The difference here is the sincere business belief that attitude and effort trump all.   Deer Valley’s top ranking—fueled by setting the standard in Grooming, Service, Dining and Lodging,  demonstrates that  they perfectly knows their  niche. There's no shame in that.

Snowbird, UT

Closest Airport: SLC, 25 miles. Epic terrain + the best powder in North America make Snowbird a top choice for a pure ski vacation.

The mountain boasts 3,240 feet of vertical and an average 500 inches (783 inches last season) of “light, fluffy, Utahhhhh powder!!” And all that fluff falls on some of the most amazing lines in North America, including the new Zone 5, a trail with are-you-kidding-me pitches.  If the world’s best powder, epic terrain, magnificent views, aren’t enough, Snowbird also offers family-friendly skiing zones, world-class lodging options and a handful of great restaurants make the decision to book a Snowbird ski vacation is a no-brainer. Everyone from hardcore, expert skiers to families with varying levels of skiing ability will highly enjoy skiing at Snowbird.

Solitude, UT

Closest Airport: SLC 36 miles. Great snow + affordable slopeside lodging options make Solitude a hit with families.

This unassuming but impressive resort is a skier’s dream and local’s refuge. Let the crowds descend upon other resorts, Solitude remains a skier’s mountain. It’s the perfect place for families to reconnect and explore a gorgeous winter landscape.  With three newer lifts, a quaint European village and improving dining options, Solitude is hardly a sacrifice . Fewer crowds means the 500 inches of annual snowfall remains untouched for days. And an uppity attitude is refreshingly absent as Solitude skiers are genuine and low key. With a little charm you can end up with local tips on some of the sweetest lines in the Wasatch. The consensus is that the “slower pace, absence of crowds, good snow and great terrain” far outweigh the grumblings over “lack of night life.”

Salt Lake City, UT

Closest Airport: SLC, 5 miles. 7 resorts close by, an airport that offers non-stop flights to most major cities, dirt cheap lodging- a vacation to Salt Lake is a great option for the budget minded skier.
